I grew up on a beautiful small Caribbean island and I found yoga and mindfulness in 2009 during the first year of grad school in the US. Before 2009, I knew about yoga and meditation but never had a desire to learn more and honestly, I was not sure if I could or should practice. During the first year of grad school I experienced some physical pain and someone suggested I try yoga, so I signed up for an introductory yoga class with a local teacher! Since that first class, I continued to practice vinyasa yoga and in 2020 I began my Ashtanga yoga journey. I continue to practice vipassana, mindfulness meditation, and breathwork for centering and grounding.
I welcome you into this space where I share information about mind and body practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and yoga which can improve your well-being and quality of life. I believe each of us has a unique story that guides how these practices are adapted and applied in our daily lives, and my goal is to learn more about how these practices work for you. I’m passionate about guiding others using mindfulness and mind and body practices, in ways that feel safe and comfortable, as they learn how to flourish and thrive in life. I believe information should be accessible and practical so you can figure out how to apply the content to your life.
I am an assistant professor of counselor education, a licensed professional counselor and substance abuse counselor (however, I am not currently seeing clients). I’ve completed courses such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Integrating Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness. I have training and experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Seeking Safety, completed a 200hr yoga teacher training, and completed certification in restorative yoga and as a mindfulness coach. My clinical training and experience has been primarily with clients diagnosed with a substance use disorder and clients who experienced trauma.
I hope there is something here you can take with you.
