What Do You Want For Yourself?

Can you believe we are already a few days into the new year? As we move into a new month and a new year, pause for a moment and ask yourself, “what do I want this year to look like for me?” It was a rollercoaster ride in 2021, however, in the middle of the challenges and changes, have you taken a moment to consider how you have grown in the past year? What personal strengths are you bringing into this new year and how do you want to use those strengths to serve you in a positive way this year or even just this month?

Looking ahead to this month, it’s easy to be overwhelmed and distracted by all the social media postings about “new year, new me,” “new year goals,” or “new year resolutions.” While these phrases may work for some, the deeper question is really about what works best for you? What do you want for yourself this month/year and how can you get your needs met in ways that serve you? I am not a fan of new year resolutions because I think it sets me up for failure. However, at the end of the year I usually think more about what I want for myself as I continue my journey through life into the next year.

I think the start of a new month, and right now a new year, is a good time to engage in personal reflection. It’s a good time to think about the lessons learned and ways to continue your personal growth and development. Here are a few things to consider this month and this year:

  • What are some personal goals you can set for yourself?
  • What are your professional or academic goals?
  • How can you improve your relationship with your body image?
  • How can you maintain positive relationships in your life?
  • What do you want this month/year to look like for you?

Take good care of yourself,
